DATUK AHMAD AHMAD A TALIB

Datuk Ahmad Talib is the Executive Director, News for Media Prima Berhad (Media Priam) and the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP). He was appointed to his current position on 11 June 2009.

He started out as a Cadet Reporter with BERNAMA in 1972 and served the Economic Service there for six years prior to joining Business Times as a journalist in 1978. Later, he was promoted to become a Specialist Writer who covered national politics and industrial relations issues such as the trade union matters, labour disputes and management issues.

In 1986, he was transferred to Berita Harian, also part of the NSTP group, as the Economic Desk Editor before he was promoted as the Assistant Editor. The year 1988 saw his transferring to the New Straits Times, the flagship newspaper of the group and his subsequent appointment as the News Editor and Chief News Editor, thereafter. In 2001, he was made the Group Editor who was responsible for the Group’s English publications.

He had also served as Advisor to the CEO of Maxis from 2004 to 2005.

Datuk Ahmad received journalism training from East West Center in Hawaii; the Press Foundation of Asia in Bangalore, India and at the Japanese Newspaper Association in Tokyo. Throughout the course of his work, he has covered general elections, numerous Asean Summit, the OIC Summit, the UNGA in New York and the NAM conference.

In 1989, Datuk Ahmad won the Knight-Bagehot Fellowship, awarded to deserving journalists to pursue a Business Journalism course at the University of Columbia, New York.

Datuk Ahmad is also an active Board Member of the Salam Foundation Board of Trustee. He is also the National Chairman of the Malaysian Red Crescent Publicity Committee, a Board Member of Orphans Foundation of Malaysia and was appointed Board Member of the National Tourism Council of Malaysia.
