MPB and CSR
Media Prima Berhad as a group believes in inculcating social responsibility through an array of activities, which will positively impact the community in which it operates. In fact it makes great business sense for companies to invest in the long-term welfare of the communities we are a part of. It is our humane way of giving back to our community for all the support that it has provided us through the years and giving our children a chance at inheriting a better world.
We make sure that we understand the issues involved, that our funding is appropriate and that we do not duplicate, when possible, what other organizations are already doing. Our contributions in 2005-2006, amongst others include:
NST-BH-TV3-8TV Malaysian Tsunami Disaster Fund
Immediately following the tsunami disaster in December 2004, the Group set up the Malaysian Tsunami Disaster Fund and successfully collected approximately RM 44.5 million from its subsidiaries and the public, which trailed into 2005. The Group also played a role in enabling its employees to support the tsunami relief efforts. A total of 120 employees from TV3 and 8TV volunteered their services to assist victims in Penang and Kedah who were badly hit by the disaster.
TV3 Goes Green
On 24 April 2005, TV3 and Zoo Negara joined the hundreds of nations celebrating World Earth Day, which is usually celebrated on every 22 April by planting over a hundred trees in Zoo Negara. The tree planting programme, “TV3 Goes Green with Zoo Negara” is a joint effort by TV3 and Zoo Negara. As Malaysian’s number one television station, reaching 4.5 million households and 20 million viewers all over Malaysia, TV3 hopes to be able to make Malaysians more aware of the importance of trees to the environment.
‘Bersamamu’
Charity works by TV3 is almost synonymous for ‘Bersamamu’, a charity–based programme which was launched by the patron, YBhg Dato’ Sri Rosmah binti Mansor, the wife of the Deputy Prime Minister on Thursday, 19 May 2005. The first episode was aired on 30 May 2005 and now moving to its fourth season in March 2006. This programme has become a major success by recently winning the Special Jury’s Award for its humanitarian efforts. As at to-date the balance from the Tabung TV3 Bersamamu is RM2 million. This fund is handled by TV3 and Amanah Raya Berhad (ARB), and TV3 is very grateful to Amanah Raya Berhad for being the Trustee to this fund.
Bersamamu is a reality programme depicting the plight of some members of the society in meeting the challenges of having to survive and to succeed the ordeal they are facing such as poverty, sickness, single motherhood, and so on.
The purpose of the programme is not only to highlight the hardship and plight of these unfortunates, but also with the hope that it would motivate individuals and corporate bodies to come forward to contribute to those who are highlighted in this programme.
Promoting Heritage
TV3 also continued to promote our strong heritage and cultural values via establishing events such as the Nyonya Kebaya and Malaysian Songket projects which were the passion our beloved late first lady, YBhg Datin Seri Endon Mahmood.
School Sponsorship Programme
Contributing toward the Newspaper in Education Programme through New Straits Times, we have been at the forefront in promoting English amongst the younger generation via its School Sponsorship Programme. Under this programme, corporate bodies and the general public were invited to subscribe copies of the newspaper to be distributed for free to school students, especially those in rural areas, in an effort to improve their English proficiency.
Awarding Humanitarianism
After its successful launch in 2004, NSTP and TV3 continue its collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers via the NSTP-PWC Malaysian Humanitarian Award to recognise Malaysians who have performed acts of outstanding community service and gone beyond their normal call of duty to perform deeds of a humanitarian nature.
Orphanage Donation Drive
Given the enormous support received from the public in Ghana, TV3 Network Limited have adopted charity causes such as the donation drive for an orphanage at Teshie, a suburb in Accra.
Tabung Gempa Bumi Yogjakarta (TGBY)
As the nation’s number one station, TV3, together with Utusan Malaysia, have also participated in this national undertaking via the Yogyakarta Earthquake Fund also known as TGBY (Tabung Gempa Bumi Yogyakarta), which was launched shortly after the news of this catastrophe, became widely known.
This fund was created under the auspices of TV3 and Utusan Malaysia in support of the nation’s efforts to extend aid and to help restore the victim’s shattered lives. These include rebuilding education center for school children at Bantol, Yogyakarta; mosque and community hall at Klaten, Yogyakarta.
TV3 started to collect TGBY from 1 June until 30 June 2006. Even though we have stopped the collection, the public still contribute direct to Maybank and as to date, TV3 managed to collect RM640, 000.00 which will go toward rebuilding the disaster areas and lives of those affected by the quake.
Tabung Bantuan Asia Barat (TBAB)
