30 December2005 | MEDIA PRIMA COMPLETES THE ACQUISITION OF NTV7
PETALING JAYA, 30 December 2005 - Media Prima Bhd, Malaysia’s leading integrated media investment company, in a filing with Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad today, said that it has completed the acquisition of Natseven TV Sdn Bhd (“NTV7”), the licence-holder and operator of ntv7, Synchrosound Studio Sdn Bhd and Encorp Media Technology Sdn Bhd, the respective licence-holder and operator of WaFM radio station (Collectively “NTV7 Group”).
NTV7 was launched in April 1998 and emerged as one of the more popular free-to-air networks with a strong following among urban viewers. The station has approximately 11 per cent of the total television viewership and approximately 27 per cent of the television advertising expenditure share based on the 9 months period ended 30 September 2005. Due to the intense competition prevailing within the domestic television industry, NTV7 undertook a comprehensive corporate and debt restructuring exercise to resuscitate its operations.
Media Prima had on 27 October 2005, entered into a sale and purchase agreement for the acquisition of NTV7 Group for a total consideration of RM90 million. Media Prima, which now already owns three television stations – TV3, 8TV and Channel 9, will add ntv7 to its stable of television networks.
