9 April 2009 | Media Prima Fires up PMR Candidates Ahead of Exams
GEORGETOWN, 9 April 2009 – PMR candidates from SMK Jelutong and SMK Hutchings were given a boost in their examination preparations today when they had the opportunity to get motivated by celebrity speaker Professor Madya Hj. Md. Izuddin Bin Hj Ali, who has written several motivational self-help books such as "Words of Wisdom to the Top" and "Berucap Penuh Yakin".
Professor Izzi, as he is popularly known, addressed some 200 Form Three students today as a part of the support from Media Prima Bhd (MPB) – with the sponsorship of the INTI Education Group for today’s session – for the schools under the PINTAR (Promoting Intelligence, Nurturing Talents, Advocating Responsibility) Project.
MPB has adopted SMK Jelutong and SMK Hutchings under the PINTAR Project and has been actively involved in supporting both schools in their various academically skewed co-curriculum activities.
A Professor at Universiti Institut Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Terengganu, Prof Madya Hj Izuddin has made numerous appearances in various media for his motivational sessions and has more than 17 years experience in giving motivational talks and public speaking, as well as training in team building, communications, study skills and family values.
“We are delighted to be able to bring Prof. Izuddin in as part of the exam preparations for the PMR candidates as they need to realise the importance of adopting an attitude to motivate themselves and have the confidence to achieve academic excellence,” said Eliza Mohamed, General Manager, Communications, MPB.
Continuing from the success of last year’s motivational talk, the PMR candidates from both SMK Jelutong and SMK Hutchings today had their attitudes tweaked and confidence boosted to motivate them to diligently prepare for the exams and grasp the importance of outstanding academic results.
Now in its third year, the PINTAR Project is an initiative mooted by the Finance Ministry involving Government-Linked Companies and over 100 schools, aimed at helping to raise awareness of the importance of education and improving the academic standards of under-privileged children and under-performing schools.
“We are very proud that both the adopted schools under Media Prima have taken an active role in the development of their students, which has contributed tremendously to their improvements in their academic performance since the project began as it is crucial that students realise that in order to achieve success, you must not only study hard, but also possess the right attitude,” said Murugan Muniandy, Senior Assistant CoCurriculum of SMK Jelutong.
MPB’s initiatives under the PINTAR programme involves the teaching staff, parents, MPB employees, community groups and leaders to jointly help in the endeavors for the students. Initiatives have included off-site camps, leadership outreach courses, intensive tuition classes for PMR and SPM candidates and awareness campaigns on diabetes and autism.
