Established in 1845, The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad (affectionately known as NSTP) is Malaysia 's oldest and largest newspaper publisher. From its humble beginning as a small publishing company with its flagship newspaper, the “Straits Times”, the NSTP Group has grown to become a corporation of distinction, with a history as exciting as that of the nation's. In 1972 , there was a split in the Malaysian and Singaporean editorial operations following the separation of the island nation in 1965 and the flagship paper was renamed “New Straits Times”.
Listed on Bursa Malaysia, the NSTP Group's stable of publications now stands at six – New Straits Times, Berita Harian, Harian Metro and their Sunday editions – the New Sunday Times, Berita Minggu, and Metro Ahad respectively. Berita Harian and Harian Metro (with the respective weekend editions) are now Malaysia 's highest circulating dailies in both the broadsheet and tabloid segments of the Malay market. Both Harian Metro and Berita Harian, in 2006, also introduced their mobile interactive services; ‘I’ Metro’ and ‘Rakan BH’ respectively, enabling readers’ opinions, views and photos sent via SMS and MMS to be published in the papers on the websites.
