BANGSAR, 2 OCTOBER 2014 – Media Prima Berhad (“Media Prima” or “the Group”), Malaysia’s leading fully integrated media group and SME Corp. Malaysia today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen the cooperation between both organizations in promoting and developing the growth of small and medium enterprises (SME) in Malaysia.

The MOU was signed by Dato’ Amrin bin Awaluddin, Group Managing Director of Media Prima and Dato’ Hafsah Hashim, Chief Executive Officer of SME Corp. Malaysia.
Amongst others, the MOU provides that Media Prima is appointed as the official media partner for key events and programmes driven by SME Corp. Malaysia. Media Prima will provide an integrated media platforms which include television, print, radio, out-of-home advertising and digital for SME Corp. Malaysia to reach its intended target audience.

Media Prima will also offer its services to create customized content such as programmes, documentaries, pull out feature articles, news coverage and advertising campaigns.

“Media Prima is delighted to enter into this MOU with SME Corp. Malaysia as it will further enhance the relationship between our organizations. As a strategic media partner, the MOU provides a framework for Media Prima to work with SME Corp. Malaysia in developing and executing their communications and promotions programmes through our fully integrated media platforms. We have a strong track record in partnering with SMEs and can provide the necessary assistance to develop content or advertising campaigns that sells.” said Dato’ Amrin.

He added that Media Prima has the potential to reach an audience of 24 million daily through our integrated media platforms which would be ideal for small and medium enterprise (SME) companies to promote their products and services to the public.

“With this Memorandum of Understanding that we have sealed with Media Prima Bhd, I am hoping that my wish to let the whole nation know about the development of SMEs, will become a reality. And more importantly for us to reach out to as many enterprises and enterprising individuals out there to let them know about the support that SME Corp. Malaysia, our government and our private-sector partners can give them,” said SME Corp. Malaysia’s CEO Dato’ Hafsah Hashim.

She added that SME Corp. Malaysia is relentlessly working towards the successful implementation of the various initiatives under the SME Masterplan to ensure the accelerated growth of SMEs in Malaysia with the aim of propelling the country into becoming a high income nation by the year 2020. Through this, the SME definition was implemented which is currently used throughout the country, enabling more businesses to receive assistance from the government. Among some of the achievements highlighted were on the SCORE diagnostic tool, technology commercialization, catalytic growth of innovative SMEs, and the facilitation of growth-stage funding. With such a conducive ecosystem, the GDP growth of SMEs has outperformed the overall economic growth. This positive growth translates to increase business formation which has created jobs and also increased exports. The signing of the MoU between SME Corp. Malaysia and Media Prima will seal the long relationship of both parties and will pave the way to a strategic SME platform to support the provision of information exchange on latest developments amongst SMEs.
