Year to date (30 September 2014)
- Profit After Tax Margin of 9 percent
- Revenue RM1.1 billion and Profit After Tax of RM106.7 million
Kuala Lumpur, 6 November 2014 – Media Prima Berhad (“Media Prima” or “the Group”), Malaysia’s leading fully integrated media investment group announced its financial results for the first nine months of the financial year ending 31 December 2014. The Group recorded Year to Date (YTD) September 2014 revenue of RM1.1 billion and Profit After Tax (PAT) of RM106.7 million with PAT margin of 9 percent.
On a current year to date comparison, the Group recorded lower revenue and PAT against previous corresponding period by 12 percent and 30 percent respectively amidst a challenging market environment where advertisers are more cautious and holding back advertising spending. The higher revenue in corresponding period 2013 was attributed by the contribution from non-traditional advertisers.
For Q3 2014, Media Prima recorded revenue of RM379.6 million and PAT of RM42.6 million.
Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar, Chairman of Media Prima said, “The Group will continue to remain resilient despite a period of intense competition, market uncertainties and an increasingly challenging operating environment. The Group remains committed to continue providing strong returns to its shareholders where the Board of Directors have declared a second interim, single tier dividend of 3.0 sen per ordinary share for the financial year ending 31 December 2014”.
He added that market uncertainties, weaker consumer sentiments and the tragic incidents involving flights MH370 and MH17 also resulted in advertisers being more cautious over advertisement placed during this period”.
Dato’ Sri Amrin Awaluddin, Group Managing Director of Media Prima said “The Group had anticipated 2014 to be a challenging year and as such have focused efforts to review and improve internal efficiencies whilst managing costs prudently. This has helped Media Prima achieved savings in finance and overhead costs for the year as well as maintaining a positive PAT margin”.
On prospect for 2014, Dato’ Sri Amrin said “The Group will continue to provide the best local and international content while aiming to penetrate new markets and build additional revenue streams. Due to the challenging business and market conditions, Media Prima will focus on the execution of its key strategy on advertising growth in the remaining period of the financial year as advertising expenditure is expected to take up near the end of the year based on past trends. At the same time, the Group will continue to manage its costs by monitoring our key cost drivers, coupled with an implementation of Group wide cost saving initiatives.”
“Media Prima Television Networks continue to command the largest viewership share where the top 20 highest rated programmes for the months between July to September 2014 were aired on its networks. Meanwhile, Media Prima Radio Networks remains highly popular with over 5 million social media followers for its three radio stations” said Dato’ Sri Amrin.
He added that in Print Media, the Group’s daily publications have maintained its readership with growth reported for Metro Ahad with readership reaching 4.2 million as at June 2014. Media Prima Digital’s popular video portal Tonton currently has 4 million registered users and the launch of Tonton Music earlier this year is expected to contribute to its popularity.
Dato’ Sri Amrin stated that the leadership position enjoyed by the Group’s integrated media platforms, which also include Big Tree Outdoor and Primeworks Studios continuously attracts advertisers looking to maximise their advertising investments.
