KUALA LUMPUR, 13 AUGUST 2015 – Media Prima Berhad (“MPB”, “Media Prima” or “the Group”), Malaysia’s largest integrated media group today announced the redesignation of YBhg Datuk Seri Fateh Iskandar Tan Sri Mohamed Mansor to Independent Non-Executive Chairman of Media Prima effective 1 September 2015, following the conclusion of YBhg Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar’s 6-year illustrious tenure with the Group.
Datuk Seri Iskandar, aged 47, was appointed to the Board of Media Prima on 4 September 2009 and is currently the Deputy Chairman as well as a Senior Independent Non-Executive Director of the Group. In the Media Prima Board Datuk Seri Iskandar is the Chairman of Nomination and Remuneration Committee and Risk Management Committee. A Malay College Kuala Kangsar alumni, he obtained his law degree from the University of Queensland, Australia. Datuk Seri Iskandar is also an established corporate figure – he is also the Group Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Glomac Berhad as well as being a Board member of Axis-Reits Managers Berhad, Telekom Malaysia Berhad and VADS Berhad. A founding Director of Malaysian Property Incorporated (MPI), Datuk Seri Iskandar is also President of The Real Estate & Housing Developer’s Association of Malaysia (REHDA) as well as the Co-Chair person of the Special Task Force to Facilitate Business Group (PEMUDAH) on Legal & Services.
The Board of Directors (“the Board”) and Management of Media Prima would like to express its deepest appreciation and gratitude to Tan Sri Johan for his leadership, dedication and immense contributions since joining the Group on 30 April 2009. During his tenure as Chairman, Tan Sri Johan has played an important role in establishing Media Prima as the leading integrated media company in Malaysia. The Board wishes him well in his future endeavours.
The Group today also announced the appointment of YM Raja Datuk Zaharaton binti Raja Dato’ Zainal Abidin, aged 67, as an Independent Non-Executive Director effective 13 August 2015. Raja Datuk Zaharaton holds a Masters in Economics from the University of Leuven, Belgium and Bachelor of Economics from the University of Malaya. A former civil servant for 34 years, her last post in the Government was as Director General of the Economic Planning Unit specialising in policy analysis and financial evaluation. Raja Datuk Zaharaton is currently Chairman of Global Maritime Ventures Berhad and had previously held the chairmanship of Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd and Ninebio Sdn Bhd.
The changes at the Board level reflect Media Prima’s commitment towards implementing strategic actions to further consolidate the Group’s position as the largest integrated media group in Malaysia. The Board welcomes the redesignation of Datuk Seri Iskandar as Chairman and is confident that under his leadership, Media Prima will continue its strong track record of delivering value to shareholders. The Board also welcomes the arrival of Raja Datuk Zaharaton whose expertise and experience would be a great addition to a very strong board in existence.
The addition of both Datuk Seri Iskandar and Raja Datuk Zaharaton also reflects the Group’s commitment to implement best practices and good corporate governance where almost 80 percent of the Board’s composition are Independent Non-Executive Directors. It also reflects that women participation at the Board level has been increased to 25 percent.
