PROCEEDS FROM TABUNG BENCANA NSTP – MEDIA PRIMA UTILISED TO HELP REBUILDING EFFORTS FOR SABAH EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
KUNDASANG, SABAH, 28 AUGUST 2015: Media Prima Berhad (“Media Prima” or “The Group”), Malaysia’s leading fully-integrated media investment group today joined forces with the Malaysian Armed Forces (“ATM”) to repair homes damaged during the recent earthquake in Sabah under the latter’s Program Jiwa Murni.
The collaborative effort between Media Prima and ATM in Kundansang was launched by YB Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Minister of Defense and witnessed by YB Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment Sabah, Datuk Abdul Jalil Hamid, Group Managing Editor New Straits Times Press and Datuk Kamal Khalid, Chief Operating Officer, Group Shared Services Media Prima.
The ATM has identified twelve houses damaged by the earthquake and will conduct repair works utilising funds from contributions made by the public through the Tabung Bencana NSTP – Media Prima. The ATM will provide the necessary technical expertise and manpower to carry out the repair works. Media Prima will allocate RM200,000.00 from the Tabung Bencana for post disaster rebuilding efforts with the ATM.
Media Prima and the ATM express its deepest gratitude to all contributors to the Tabung Bencana NSTP – Media Prima which has enabled the Program Jiwa Murni to take place in Sabah.
The launch of Program Jiwa Murni in Sabah marks the first collaboration between ATM and Media Prima in providing relief and post disaster rebuilding efforts to victims of natural disasters. Through Program Jiwa Murni, ATM will be able provide assistance in the form of technical expertise including medical (immediate disaster relief) and engineering (post rebuilding). ATM will also be able to assist in deployment of relief items to victims in disaster areas inaccessible by the general public.
Media Prima is honoured to partner with ATM and believes the synergistic collaboration between the two parties will ultimately benefit communities facing hardships. Media Prima and ATM is committed to conduct more programmes under Program Jiwa Murni in the future.
Tabung Bencana NSTP – Media Prima was first established on 1 October 2009 to assist earthquake victims in Padang, Sumatra. Since then, the fund is at the forefront of relief efforts for victims of natural disasters and other humanitarian crisis in Malaysia and abroad. Leveraging on the strength of Media Prima’s integrated media platform, the Group is able to effectively generate awareness and enable the public and other corporate citizens to donate funds to assist the victims. Media Prima allocates significant amount of airtime and space on television, radio, print, out-of-home media and online for this purpose. All funds are used for relief and rebuilding efforts in areas where natural disasters occur.
During the aftermath of the Sabah earthquake, Media Prima, via its Briged Sukarelawan Media Prima-NSTP, had visited a few affected areas and rendered immediate assistance in the form of basic food and necessities within several days of the incident to 250 Malims and their families.
