KUALA LUMPUR, 2 December 2015 – Media Prima Berhad (“Media Prima” or “The Group”), Malaysia’s leading fully-integrated media investment group today launched its collaboration with the Ministry of Defence Malaysia (MINDEF) to undertake flood relief efforts to areas that require assistance in preparation of the anticipated torrential rain this year end season.

The collaboration, under Mindef’s Program Jiwa Murni, is part of Media Prima’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of giving back to the community, improving lives and assisting communities facing hardship of natural disasters. The launch of Program Jiwa Murni today marks another collaboration between Media Prima and MINDEF in providing relief and post disaster rebuilding efforts to victims of natural disasters. In August this year, similar collaboration between Media Prima and MINDEF was carried out at Kampung Simunul, Kundasang, Sabah, following the Earthquake that damaged homes there.

This collaboration between Media Prima and MINDEF today was launched by YB Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Minister of Defense and witnessed by Datuk Abdul Jalil Hamid, Group Managing Editor, New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad.

Media Prima has allocated an initial funding of RM300,000.00 from the Tabung Bencana NSTP-Media Prima to prepare a total of 2,000 survival kits comprising of basic hygiene items like hand sanitiser, soap, shampoo, diapers and basic medications.

The Tabung Bencana NSTP – Media Prima was first established on 1 October 2009 to assist earthquake victims in Padang, Sumatra. Since then, the fund is at the forefront of relief efforts for victims of natural disasters and other humanitarian crisis in Malaysia and abroad. Leveraging on the strength of Media Prima’s integrated media platform, the Group is able to effectively generate awareness and enable the public and other corporate citizens to donate funds to assist the victims. Media Prima allocates significant amount of airtime and space on television, radio, print, out-of-home media and online for this purpose. The entire proceeds from the funds is used to fund relief and rebuilding efforts in areas where natural disasters occur.

To date, proceeds from the funds have been utilised for flood and natural disaster relief missions, bringing food and daily necessities to victims in the affected areas. Media Prima would like to express its utmost appreciation to all that have contributed to the funds.
