BANGSAR, 22 July 2016 – Media Prima Berhad (“Media Prima” or “the Group”), Malaysia’s largest integrated media group is pleased to announce several key appointments to the Group’s Board of Directors (“Board”) and its subsidiary companies. These appointments are:
1. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Ismail Bin Haji Omar, aged 63, is appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Media Prima Berhad and the Group’s subsidiary company The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad effective, 22 July 2016. He is also appointed as a member of Media Prima’s Audit and Risk Management committees. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Ismail was appointed Inspector-General of Police from September 2010 to May 2013, after serving the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for 47 years. He continued then his service to the country as the Ambassador of Malaysia to France from 2013 to 2015. Prior to his appointment as IGP, Tan Sri Dato Seri Utama Haji Ismail held several key positions within the PDRM including as the Deputy IGP, Director of Bukit Aman Management Department as well as the Selangor State Police Chief among others.
2. Datuk Loo Took Gee, aged 60, is appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Media Prima Berhad and the Group’s subsidiary companies namely Media Prima Digital Sdn Bhd and Synchrosound Studio Sdn Bhd, effective 6 August 2016. Datuk Loo holds a Master’s Degree in Policy Science from Saitama University, Japan; Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree from University of Malaya, Malaysia; and Diploma in Public Administration from the National Institute of Public Administration, Malaysia. She is currently the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water. Prior to her current position, she was the Deputy Secretary General (2) of the same Ministry and has also served in other Ministries and Government agencies.
Datuk Seri FD Iskandar, Group Chairman of Media Prima said, “Media Prima is committed to implementing strategic actions to further consolidate our position as the largest integrated media group in Malaysia. The appointments of Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Ismail Bin Haji Omar and Datuk Loo Took Gee are significant additions to a very strong board in existence at Media Prima and our subsidiary companies.” He added that the appointments reflect the Group’s commitment to implement best practices and good corporate governance where 80 percent of the Board’s composition are Independent Non-Executive Directors while increasing the presence of women directors to 30 percent.
