KUALA LUMPUR, 11 AUGUST 2016 – Media Prima Berhad (“MPB”, “Media Prima” or “the Group”), Malaysia’s largest integrated media group today announced the retirement of YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohamed Jawhar as Independent Non-Executive Chairman of The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad (“NSTP”) effective 8 August 2016.
The Group also announced that Tan Sri Jawhar has stepped down from his position as Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of Media Prima effective 11 August 2016. He has been a member of the Group’s Board of Directors since August 2006.
The Board of Directors of Media Prima (“the Board”) wishes to express its deepest appreciation and gratitude for his leadership, dedication, and contributions to NSTP and the Group. Datuk Seri FD Iskandar, Group Chairman of Media Prima said, “Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohamed Jawhar was the longest serving Chairman of NSTP, having served the company with distinction after assuming the role in 2006. Tan Sri has demonstrated tremendous leadership and provided invaluable guidance to the Management team of NSTP, enabling the company to maintain its dominant presence in Malaysia’s print media landscape.”
Tan Sri Jawhar’s tenure saw NSTP continuously deliver value to shareholders whilst ensuring that corporate governance and industry best practices are embedded in the company’s corporate culture.
Tan Sri Jawhar will continue to play a critical role in the Group’s corporate responsibility initiatives as Chairman of the Media Prima Humanitarian Fund which provides assistance to victims of natural disasters, medical relief, and other humanitarian causes.
