Business transformation efforts to continue under new leadership
BANGSAR, 7 July 2017 – Media Prima Berhad (“Media Prima” of “the Group”), Malaysia’s leading integrated media group announced today that Dato’ Sri Amrin Awaluddin would end his tenure as Group Managing Director of Media Prima effective 1 August 2017. Dato’ Sri Amrin remains on the Board of Media Prima and re-designated as Executive Director to ensure a smooth leadership transition for the Group.
The Group also announced Encik Mohamad Ariff Ibrahim would step down from his position as Group Chief Financial Officer effective 1 August 2017 and will remain with Media Prima as Director at the Group Managing Director’s Office until 31 December 2017 to assist the Senior Management team in executing the Group’s Odyssey 2.0 business transformation efforts.
Dato’ Sri Amrin and Encik Mohamad Ariff had earlier informed the Media Prima Board of Directors (“the Board”) of their intentions to step down from their current posts to pursue new challenges outside the Group. It was their personal decisions and the Board had accepted their requests upon consideration of their contributions to Media Prima. Dato’ Sri Amrin and Encik Mohamad Ariff had served the Group cumulatively for 16 and 19 years respectively. The Board extends its highest appreciation for their leadership and wishes to thank them for their services.
Dato’ Sri Amrin was appointed as the Group Managing Director in 2009. He had served in several key positions including as Chief Financial Officer of Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Berhad (STMB) in 2001, Group Chief Financial Officer of Media Prima Berhad in 2003, Chief Executive Officer of Natseven TV Sdn Bhd in 2006 and Chief Executive Officer of STMB in January 2008.
Encik Mohamad Ariff, meanwhile, had been an integral member of Media Prima’s Senior Management team since he rejoined NSTP in 2009. His leadership, insights and guidance had been instrumental in major corporate exercises undertaken by the Group including the restructuring and integration of NSTP and Big Tree Outdoor, the acquisition of REV Asia Holdings Sdn Bhd, the formation of CJ WOW SHOP as well as the delisting of NSTP. He also spearheaded key rationalisation initiatives leading to cost efficiencies throughout the Group.
Media Prima had earlier in May shared with the financial community a key transformation roadmap aimed at reinventing Media Prima into a digital first commerce company. The roadmap will benefit the Group given the changes in media consumption amongst consumers and challenges faced by media industry as a whole.
Commenting on his decision to step down, Dato’ Sri Amrin said “It was indeed a difficult decision on my part, having been with this media conglomerate for many years but I believe the time is right to pave the way for a new leadership team to follow through on our business transformation initiatives. It has been an honour and a privilege to be given the opportunity to work with the esteemed board and colleagues all of whom have contributed immensely to Media Prima’s success. I would like to thank them for their immeasurable commitment and support throughout all these years and I am pleased to leave Media Prima knowing it has a strong management team to continue with its transformation.”
Meanwhile, Encik Mohamad Ariff said that as a member of the Group for a cumulative nineteen years, he is very proud of what the Group had accomplished for its shareholders. “We made progress incritical areas including achieving synergies across our multiple media businesses as well as maintaining a balanced cost management and disciplined investment strategies. I wish to thank the Board and fellow colleagues for all their support. Though it was a tough decision, I have every confidence in the management team to take Media Prima forward.”
