PETALING JAYA, 23 March 2020 — The Movement Control Order (“MCO”) was officially in place from 18 March till 31 March 2020 for the whole of Malaysia. Media Prima supports this appeal and continues to fulfil its social responsibility by airing the latest information and the call to stay at home through its television channels TV3, TV9, ntv7 and 8TV.
According to Johan Ishak, Chief Executive Officer of Media Prima Television Networks: “As proof that most Malaysians supported this call to stay home, all Media Prima television stations recorded a rise in number of viewership such as TV3’s Buletin Utama which recorded a 53% increase. The 8TV’s Midday Mandarin and ntv7’s Mandarin 7 also smashed both its viewership record. The total digital viewership on Facebook and YouTube from 16 to 18 March 2020 recorded 13.1 million views for Buletin Utama and Buletin 1.30; 6.8 million views for 8TV’s Mandarin News and Midday Mandarin; while ntv7’s Mandarin 7 recorded 4.6 million views.”
TV3’s Buletin Utama recorded a total of 3.44 million viewership or a 42.3% audience share on 18 March 2020. The number of views for Buletin Utama showed an upsurge of 53%. The midday news slot, Buletin 1.30, also recorded an increase of 1.4 million viewers on the same day.
For 8TV’s Mandarin News, Chinese viewers 4+ increased by 45%, recording 1.1 million viewers and a 59.3% viewers share. Midday Mandarin also broke the highest number of viewership by recording 617,000 viewers and 60% viewers share for the same day. Meanwhile, Mandarin 7, aired on ntv7, also recorded the highest number of views at 564,000 or 49% of the share for Chinese viewers in the afternoon.

- TV3’s Buletin Utama: 3.44 million of viewers (Total 4+)
- TV3’s Buletin 1.30: 1.4 million viewers (Total 4+)
- 8TV’s Mandarin News: 1.1 million viewers (Chinese 4+)
- 8TV’s Midday Mandarin: 617,000 viewers (Chinese 4+)
- ntv7’s Mandarin 7: 564,000 viewers (Chinese 4+)
